Buying a Golden Retriever puppy means seeing the litter with its mother. That is a legal requirement under Lucy's Law, not a courtesy. Ask for health results on both parents rather than the puppies: for Golden Retrievers that means BVA hip and elbow scores, an annual eye test, and DNA results for PRA-1, PRA-2 and ichthyosis. Reputable breeders will have microchipped and first-vaccinated the pups before they leave, and will happily talk about what the parents actually do in the field rather than only how they look. Take your time. A good Golden Retriever litter is worth waiting for.
